Back To Square One

Date: Sun 12 March 2006
Time: 3:20 PM EST

The vet called with Barney's test results yesterday, and they were negative for the signs of FIP they were looking for. She also said he's tested negative for tell-tale signs of pancreatitis.

The vet wants to see him again tomorrow, but I don't know what she plans to look for. I'm almost to the point where I want them to cut open his belly and just have a look around at his guts. She said that is an option....

He's sleeping in my lap. Sleeping is pretty much all he does now.

Barny Home For Now

Date: Fri 10 March 2006

Still waiting for the test results, which might not be in till Monday. Meanwhile, they sent Barney home with me. He's in my lap as I type this.

They're still not sure whether it's FIP. While he's showing many of the symptoms, other symptoms that ought to be there aren't. I'm not getting my hopes up though. One article I read about it said that one of its characteristics is that it is very hard to diagnose.

It's good to have him back home, even if it turns out to be for only a few days.

Barney

Date: Thu 9 March 2006

It's looking more and more like FIP. They're going to run a blood test just to be absolutely sure, but I'm not expecting good news. I'll have him put to sleep as soon as the confirmation gets in, which will probably be tomorrow or the day after.

I visited him for about fifteen minutes today. The vet let me sit with Barney alone in her office. He is very weak, and his meows are pitiful little noises. I could hear him purr when I pressed my ear against his neck.
