Stolen?

Date: Mon 20 March 2006
Time: 11:50 PM EST

The guy in apartment 610 at Polo Club apartments called just now and said he only got the one package, which means either he's lying, somebody else stole it from his doorstep before he got home from work Thursday, or the FedEx driver delivered it somewhere else to begin with (my bet is on the second possibility). I guess I'll call the driver tomorrow and verify that he left it at the same place as the other one, and then try to get a reimbursement from FedEx for lost property. I think their standard policy is to reimburse up to only $100 for lost shipments unless the sender specified a certified value at the time it was sent (if I understand correctly what the lady I talked to on Friday said). I'll call them tomorrow and see whether I'm screwed.

It's unfortunate that two apartment complexes next door to each other have such similar street names: Ashley Place versus Ashley Creek Court. From now on, I'm going to specify the apartment complex's name in the shipping notes whenever I order something online.

It will be nice when I finally have all the parts to build a server. I ordered everything on Tuesday, and so far all I've gotten are the motherboard, power supply, and video card. I'm still waiting for the hard drives (which I'll probably have to re-order), RAID controller, hotswap drive cage, case, CPU, and RAM. The RAID card and CPU should be here tomorrow. As far as I can tell, Page Computers hasn't even shipped the case and hotswap cage yet, and they've ignored my request for an ETA (I don't think I'll be ordering anything else from them in the future). Also haven't heard anything regarding the RAM since I got the confirmation that the payment went through last Tuesday. I don't think I'll be ordering anything else from Compu-Terra either; I don't like being kept in the dark for so long when I've already payed for the item.

The FedEx driver went to the leasing office at Polo Club Apartments and found that the person who had received my stuff had given one of the packages (the video card) to the leasing office to deal with. Makes me wonder just what they're doing with the four hard drives that were in the other package, which they got the day before they got the video card. If they don't call me by this evening (I left them my phone number), then I'll hike over there and knock on their door.

Nobody was home at Polo Club apartment 610, so I left them a note explaining what was going on and asked them to call me.
