That's What I Call Service

Another shipping oddity, only this time good. Yesterday I ordered a network switch, which I'll eventually need to connect my backup servers together. I didn't need it in a hurry, so I selected the free shipping option. It said to expect it in 7-9 days. It arrived in less than 24 hours.

Another Mistake

I finally got the hotswap cage that I had been waiting a week and a half for, and it turned out that Page Computers sent me the wrong part. So now I get to go through the processes of sending it back and trying to get a full refund (shipping included if I'm really lucky) from them. Meanwhile, I've re-ordered the part from another supplier. (These are the guys I've already decided not to order from anymore because they didn't keep me updated on the order status.)

It makes me wonder if these kinds of mistakes are happening all the time. Are online stores and shipping companies part of a conspiracy to generate widespread frustration? And to think, the main reason I quit GNAX was because I was sick of dealing with other people's ineptitude.

On the bright side, I also got the RAM stick today, so now I can turn on the new server and configure the BIOS and say how-do-you-do to the RAID card. What a thrill.... At least all the parts I've gotten so far work together. The hard drives should be here Monday, at which point I will be able to install an OS and start testing configurations with it.

Surreal

This is what I got back from Compu-Terra after my RAM order status inquiry:

I left memory before leaving and can not find it. Sorry.
I already refunded your payment.
Sincerely
He did indeed refund the money, but it strikes me as being very odd that he didn't just get another stick of RAM and send me that. Just all of a sudden, for no good reason, he decided to cancel my order.

I've re-ordered the RAM from another store.

I called FedEx to get the process going to get reimbursed for the $500 shipment they lost for me. They're sending me a claim form in the mail. Meanwhile, I've re-ordered the hard drives.

The RAID card, case, and CPU are all due to arrive today. The hotswap cage should be here in the next few days.
