Korean Food

Date: Sun 5 June 2005
Time: 11:25 PM EDT

I went to the Buford Farmer's Market today. I got some chicken wings, some blood sausage, rice cakes, and other Korean yummies. Now I am stuffed.

I didn't do my laundry this weekend. In fact, I only left the apartment twice in the last three days: going to the market today, and last night I walked to the corner convenience store for some milk. I had to talk myself into going to the market. Every time I get the idea to go, just before I leave I think, "It's such a hassle going out to the bus stop, waiting for the bus, wasting so much time on the bus and trains, all to spend about 10 minutes at the store and then waste another hour and a half to come back." Today, though, I reasoned that if I didn't go, I'd just waste time at home. At least if I waste all that time on the bus/train, then after a few hours I have something to show for it (yummy food).

This is what soon dae (Korean blood sausage) looks like:

The peach-colored stuff in the little plastic container is seasoned salts that you dip the sausage in.

MUD, 80s Music, Teamspeak, and brameld.net

Date: Sun 5 June 2005

Been playing a lot of MUD the last couple of weeks. MysticalMUD. I spend waste most of my free time playing on it.

I found a nice 80s Internet radio station, and I wrote a small shell script called '80s' that starts playing it. Here's the stream, if you're interested.

One of my unfinished projects had been an Internet telephone written in Java. But the other day I discovered Teamspeak, so I don't think I'll be working on it anymore. I installed a Teamspeak server on Friday and tested it out with Sam last night. It works pretty well. The sound quiality is good, but there's a substantial lag...it's about a second round-trip. After some playing around with codec settings and pinging the server, Sam and I concluded that the lag is due solely to the compression and decompression of the audio data that occurs on each end.

Still, it's free long distance telephone, so I won't complain too much about the lag. I ordered a set of headphones with built-in microphone from Amazon.com today, just for Internet voice chatting.

My brother Michael recently moved his domain brameld.net to this server. I learned a little more about httpd.conf settings and the sendmail config file in the process of getting things set up for him. I also installed SquirrelMail on the server because he had been using web mail at his previous provider. Now I find myself using SquirrelMail to check my email when I'm not home.
